Dear HDIS Parents and Guardians,

In light of the recent security concerns affecting Muslim schools and communities, we would like to provide our families with an update on the precautionary measures being taken at HDIS.

We would like to clarify that HDIS has not received the threatening email or any direct threat. However, we are taking the situation seriously and, as a precaution, are taking additional steps to support the continued safety and well-being of our students, staff, and school community. School operations are continuing as usual.

The following steps are being taken:

  • Hamilton Police Service has been contacted regarding the situation. There will be increased police patrols around the school this week, particularly during drop-off and pickup times.
  • Staff will be maintaining additional awareness in and around the school, particularly during arrival, dismissal, and outdoor activities. We also ask families to remain attentive and report any concerning activity to the appropriate authorities.
  • Building access and our existing security measures are being reviewed. We are ensuring that entrances and other access points are appropriately secured and that established procedures for accessing the school are followed.
  • Visitor access will continue to be carefully monitored. All visitors are expected to follow the school’s established entry and check-in procedures and may only access school areas with authorization.
  • Our emergency and lockdown procedures are being reviewed and updated. Any necessary updates will be implemented as soon as possible, and staff will receive clear guidance regarding procedures and responsibilities.
  • During arrival and dismissal, we kindly ask parents to follow staff directions and, once their children have been dropped off or picked up, to avoid remaining unnecessarily on the school or mosque premises. This will help us maintain a smooth and well-monitored arrival and dismissal process.

We understand that information of this nature can be concerning. We want to reassure our families that HDIS has not received a direct threat. These measures are precautionary, and we will continue to monitor the situation and remain in communication with the relevant authorities.Should the situation change or should the school receive information requiring immediate action, parents will be notified promptly through ClassDojo, which will serve as our primary channel for urgent school-wide communication. We ask parents to ensure that they are connected to the school on ClassDojo and that notifications are enabled. Any necessary instructions or updates regarding school operations, dismissal, or pickup will be communicated through this platform.
